  • If your monitor doesn't come on, your hard drive is irrelevant. When the computer powers up, one of the first things it does is run a series of self-tests on hardware, which includes sending signals to the monitor. This shows up as the BIOS logo and usually a bunch of text. All that occurs before it even tries to access the hard drive, so the contents or even presence of the hard drive doesn't matter. You probably have a motherboard, video card, or power supply problem. Or your monitor is busted.
