Why do we sing "Rock a bye baby" to lull a baby to sleep when the song is about putting your baby in a tree and letting the wind crash the cradle on the ground?

Actaully funny story. My parents always song that song to put us to see, except for the youngest one. My baby brother was fine with the song until it got to that part and he would cry. It got to the point either my parents had to not to sing it or take the last part out.

Its a cruel rhyme but because a baby cant understand the words it doesnt matter, its the soft tones of the parents voice that matters to the child at that age

Because it's a way of sounding sweet to your child while venting out parental frustrations?
