Hypothetical US politics. If a competent, qualified third party candidate (male or female) could enter the 2008 Presidential election, how many of you would seriously consider voting for this hypothetical third party candidate over either Obama or McCain?

Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. -Douglas Adams Anyway, voting for a 3rd party is pointless. The ignorant masses will only vote either Democrat or Republican. Better to waste your vote on whichever is the lesser of two evils.

Well a thrid party would become a new 2nd party. Our problem is life long straight republican and where I am From Straight Democrat line voters. They are giving their and my leaders a blank check to do whatever it is they want without regard for the law or truth. That is why are system is so messed up blind loyality instead of unending questions.

I would vote for Will Ferrell or Mike Myers over McCain, but in order to dissuade me from voting for Obama a third party candidate would have to prove to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that he or she is better qualified than Obama to bring some positive changes to this crumbling empire.

I love hypothetical questions....keep them coming..... I will vote for a third party and I have said so since I came to this site. You may ask yourself why is this woman going to do this? The reason is that we need to try and get as many serious and decent opposition as we can into Congress and the Senate so there will be a balance in power. If we can turn the election and have our candidate win which is not all that unlikely, then great if not we will know we have voted well according to our conscience and for the wellbeing of our country. Too much power in a single pair of hands is negative for any democracy.
