  • Whatever +2
  • i guess the majority of people here on this site aren't really here for actual answers (unless they want FACTUAL answers... emotional/theoretical/off the wall-wise, its all about the curiosity and entertainment factor i think)... i could be wrong though :) i'd like to think there are people out there that actually want a good answer.
  • Why not? The point may be just to do. Possibly in one of your 23 answers somebody found something. In your 105 answers, someone did find help, just not click the + button. Maybe it's in what you learned, not what you believe someone else did, is the help.
  • Don't give up. I hope you are not here only for the points, not like you can redeem them for prizes. Many here may learn from your answers. And there is nothing wrong with us having a little fun along the way. Lighten up and enjoy, you might also make a few freinds along the way.
  • The point is, you gave 105 informative, thoughtful, intelligent answers. If people seem unappreciative of that, so what? You and your answers exist independently of those people, and their failure to acknowledge or appreciate those answers doesn't detract at all from their excellence. Some people prefer Harlequin Romance novels to "To Kill A Mockingbird", but that doesn't make "To Kill A Mockingbird" any less a classic.
  • The "point" is that AnswerBag is exactly what you chose to make it. I will use the same philosophy that I used on QnA Live. Be helpful as often as possible, regardless of the reward. Then you are free to be sarcastic, humorous, clever, or silly whenever the spirit moves you. I try to keep the tone of my answers in line much of the time, injecting humor even into otherwise serious answers ... often tempered with a bit of sarcasm. Certainly, striving for rewards helps you compete with yourself, but satisfaction of a job well done is even more important. Do not be discouraged. Lay back and enjoy the ride. ;-)
  • Just because you didn't get points, doesn't mean it's valueless, unless you are only here for the points. I spend a great deal of my time answering factual questions from people that usually only come to AB to have one question answered that they really need. But these people are really pleased to receive this help and since they are new they may give me 1 point or like most occasions, none because they aren't a part of this website, they just want an answer. I don't mind that because I am here to help people. It matters more to me that they get a good answer, especially if it involves the life of an animal, their welfare. So the whole point, as it says at the top of nearly every page here is "Help Someone!" I do:-)
  • You make this place what it is for you. Have fun, dont focus on points... I could go answer 20 auto related questions, and next thing you know, we have 200 people talking about cars... Meet people, and talk, and learn, thats what most of us do! :)
  • Points aren't the point. It's sharing knowledge and building community. That's the point.
  • Excellent question. Only YOU can decide for YOURSELF.
  • Points are gravy. The real meal is in helping others, and imparting knowledge, whether they give you points or not. Of course, you seldom know whether they really listened, or whether they listed to YOU, but you can assume that someone, somewhere, sometimes will ask the same or a similar question on Google, and find YOUR answer, which will help THEM. AND, as others run across your answer, they MAY always give it more points. Meanwhile, you have made a few people laugh with the stupid, sarcastic, and pointless answers, and MAY have helped someone who only knew how to ask a question here, and NOT how or why to give points. If you are only here for the points, and not to help make AB THE best question/answer site on the internet, for both serious and fun answers, then you are right!... What's the point? If, on the other hand, you are here to provide good and/or funny answers, only care a bit about the points, and like the interactions with others here, then you HAVE your point.
  • If you don't get points, don't sweat. The person who DIDN'T give you points for your insightful answer probably benefited from it far more than the person who GAVE you points for your joking response. But at the same time, I feel your pain. I once gave an INCREDIBLY detailed and articulate response about how to change a very specific car model's headlights. I didn't get points (not too big of a deal), but the guy didn't even THANK me. I was pissed.
  • So I'm thinking you're not buying the altruism angle ... What about a 30 day fully refundable 'The whole of the sum is greater than its parts' trial kit then...
  • hahaha i totally know what you mean! when i first joined here i was a total ass to people. i made the most dickhead responses ever! i got shit tons of points! I was like wow this is easy, and started making intelligent responses...stopped getting so many points lol
  • There is no point. Points are pointless. Some people want points so bad, they create a second profile and give themselves points. I like to answer here because Answerbag is fun, and it has comments, which makes it better than most other sites I participate in. I enjoy the points part of the game, but they aren't worth anything. The owners of Answerbag like to keep it going, because they get revenue from the advertising, and the staff likes it because they get their rewards out of it also. (a paycheck, I suppose). If it's a "bother" to you, then - don't.
  • To date bright Sparks you have accrued as many points for a singular whinyassedandtotallyunappreciatedtobootletmetellyabytch post in one day than I have received in the last 6 months for the *entire* catalogue of my submitted Questions! Consider that:
