I have a 2005 Ford Ranger Fx4 whose engine died yesterday. The engine turns over, but does not seem to be getting any gas. The gas tank is half full and has gas line anti freeze added. Is there a history of fuel pumps dieing on this model

check the fuel pressure cutoff switch , if that is ok, try hitting the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet WHILE someone turns it over, if it starts after that replace the fuel pump. should be under warranty as that is a $500.00 fuel pump. there are a few more things , but they require a proffessional with the right equipment.

I found the problem by troubleshooting via http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ab_auto_fuel_system/article/0,2021,DIY_13679_5132137,00.html.

The problem was the fuel cut off switch which had been activated and needed to be reset. the DIYNETWORK.COM provided great on line troublshooting capability

Yeah this has been happening in my 2005 FX4 since I bought it. It will happen while driving and it is dangerous if it happens on the highway. I am actually relieved to find out its not limited to my ranger specifically. Sounds like there needs to be a recall.
