Lake Titicaca is located on the border of Bolivia and Peru situated 12,507 ft above sea level. It is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. It is the largest lake in South America by volume. The lake is composed of two nearly separate subbasins that are connected by the Strait of Tiquina which is 2,620 ft across at the narrowest point. The larger subbasin, has a mean depth of 443 ft and a maximum depth of 932 ft. The smaller subbasin has a mean depth of 30 ft and a maximum depth of 131 ft.
