  • I speak English, she speaks British. I've tried to learn hers, but it's a struggle. When all else fails, I ask her to spell things and then I google them.
  • honestly, i couldnt know a person if they didnt speak my language! i dont think i could fall in love with someone who doesn't speak english!
  • I would try anything to make my s/o happy and to learn a new language is something i'd like to do.. French Spanish ect.. but would love french
  • We're still working on it, after 34 years of marriage. It's funny, because when we were first contemplating marriage, I said to him, "Does this mean I will have to learn to pronounce your last name?" And he said, "No, my Dad says its' xxxxxxxx, but I say xxxxxx, so, how do you say it?"
  • I speak British English and my wife speaks American English. And there are more differences than you might first think. However, as I moved to the US, then I'm trying to adapt, but after 45 years in England, it's not easy sometimes.
  • No, my native language is French, hers are German and Romanian (she spoke Romanian at school, and also with her father, because he spoke Romanian and Hungarian, but not German). She knew my language already and made further progress. I knew already her language. I tried to learn Romanian, but I am not very good at it. We live in Germany.
  • My wife's first language is afrikaans, second is english (but did german and dutch at school). My first is english and I did french at school... I had to learn afrikaans really fast so I could ask her father's permission to get married !!!! (we didn't actually need permission, but its the 'correct' thing to do). Problem was that his english was about as good as my french (ie: "where is the dog" level!). Today we use english (mainly) but afrikaans to discuss things privately or say 'sweet nothings' to each other without the whole office listening in ! We both learned each others languages, but have used the official language of the country we live/lived in (so I guess the answer is not really, sort of, no/both) LOL ! A great question though !
