Probably because more automatics have been made than manuals lately and the fact that standards tend to last longer than automatics (or at least that's what I've found). Also, many of the standards from past years are being hauled off for scrap metal while the newer automatics are still somewhat fresh off the market and haven't all reached the age of being dumped.

I think it's because like the other 2 people said...people are lazy now. I am only 19, but I've had more cars than any other 19 yr old I know, and every single one of them was a manual. It surprises me how many people don't even know how to drive a stick...I think thats crazy. That was the first kind of car I ever drove, was an 89' mustang gt 5speed. I think more people are just getting lazy and want everything to done for them.

"Why do automatic transmissions outnumber manual 10 to 1 in the market for used vehicles? ?" . Simple. . Automatic transmissions outnumber manual 10 to 1 in the NEW vehicle market therefore the same MUST be true for the used vehicle market.
