My sons were doing this at about 8 years old... my daughter had very long hair, so she needed my help until she was about 10.

I would think it would be different for each kid. There isn't some magic age. When they can do it themselves let them.

I think when they are old enough to want to be modest and can be trusted not to flood the bathroom floor. My five year old is almost there, but I think I'll wait another year for him to grow up a little.

For a shower, maybe as young as 6, but for a bath, I would wait until at least 7 or 8. When they ask to be left alone, might be about right, if they seem responsible enough.

Seven or eight would be about right, but just remember to check on them often. Kids can drown even at that age! Be safe!
