When he doesn't care about his students.

A bad teacher often talks too much. The idea that students are empty buckets and the teacher needs to pour his/her knowledge into those buckets by lecturing is clearly outmoded. In contrast, teachers who see themselves as enablers guiding their students in the direction of knowledge tend to be the most successful.
