The blow could have damaged the nerves that control the vocal cords. They are pretty vulnerable. Some viruses can permanently damage them. Having a tube down your throat can damage them too. I'd give it a little time and if it doesn't get better, go see an ENT. There are speech therapy exercises than can help.

Give it a day or two....if it doesn't get better I would go in....and you should never scream unless you are in danger....something my grandmother told me....;)

It could be swelling, but if it does not improve soon, you should see a doctor. I think I would call my doctor anyway - just for advice. I am a singer and a speaker and would never take a moment's risk with my voice.

try using ductape it will keep the child in place pretty good then you should'nt have to scream !
