  • Unfortuneatly, the pastor didn't explain in detail what Jesus meant in this passage. In Jesus' time, they had a type of teaching called comparative language. Where they compared to things and the distance was supposed to be huge. A better way this would be worded is, People should love God so much that in comparison to how much we love our parents it is almost as though we hate our parents. This doesn't mean we hate our parents at all, it's just that our love for God should be so much larger and greater. Why should we love God? (1John 4:19 [NKJV]) We love Him because He first loved us parenthesis my commentary John 3:16 For God so loved the World (all of humanity while it hated him), that He sent His only Begotten Son,(His most loved) that whosever should believe in Him (Jesus) should not perish (eternally damned) but have eternal life (be in heaven with Him) God loves us more than we could fathom. If this answer was insuffiecient please say so don't just brush it off please.
