Help answer this question below.
The three primary weapon types are foil, epee, and sabre (or saber).
A foil is long, narrow, and flexible mostly in the vertical direction, if you are holding it. Practice foils will have a rubber tip on the end, but competition (electric) foils will not - they will have a small spring-loaded metal tip that determines if you hit someone hard enough to score a touch. These tips are not sharp, and will not break the flesh. Foils are intended for stabbing, not slashing.
An epee is similar to a foil, but it is less flexible. It is also a stabbing weapon.
The sabre is a slashing weapon and can be easily identified by their larger bell guard that protects the fencer's hand. Sabres are very flexible and can be whipped around quite easily.
the only one I know is called a foil, looks like an automotive radio antenna.
your answer is foil.
good luck with the rest of the crossword
In modern fencing, there are only three main types of swords used: The Foil, a long, thin, square blade, used for stabbing, with only the torso of the fecing jacket counting as points.
The Epee (ep-ay): like the foil only heavier, thicker, and flat, which is used for stabbing and slashing with the sides, counts points wherever it hits and has no right of way.
The Sabre: unlike the medival blade, the modern sabre is long, flat, and used for slashing with the top and bottom of the blade. hitting any part of the fencing jacket will count as a score.
Also, in addition to sport/classical fencing, many people participate in Historical Fencing. This is fencing as a Martial Art (hence the term "Art of Defence") as opposed to a sport. The weapons used include longsword, rapier, sidesword, highland broadsword, sword & buckler, smallsword, in addition to other non-sword weapons (pollaxe, mace, dagger) and unarmed combat.
Here's some additional information about the épée, the foil, and the sabre. First, here's a picture (click on the link):

From left to right in that picture are shown the épée, the foil, and the sabre.
Each weapon is made up of three major parts: the blade, the bell (the handguard), and the grip.
The épée is the largest and heaviest of the three weapons. It has a v-cut, triangular blade; a heavier, bigger bell; and a grip similar to that of the foil.
The foil--the lightest of the three weapons--has a squarish blade near the bell which tapers to a rectangle near the tip, a small bell, and a grip similar to that of the epee.
The épée and foil in the picture have what are known as "orthopedic" or "pistol" grips; there are other grips that such weapons can have (e.g., Italian, Spanish, French, etc.).
The sabre has a "y" or "t"-shaped blade near the bell which tapers to a rectangle as it nears the tip, a large wraparound bell, and a grip uniquely its own.
Épée and foil blades can be up to 90 cm long, while sabre blades can be no longer than 88 cm.
I see you guys really know your swords! Can anyone help me? Is there a game, similar with fencing, that uses Medieval swords for instance? I think it wouldn't be considered a sport if such a game exists but it must be lots of fun. I know there are some Medieval themed parks and I haven't been to one but I guess they should have such games there. What do you think?

All fencinbg swords are called foils! The three types of foils are sabre cutlass, and epee.
by Davidine on September 20th, 2009
no they are not!
they are completely different swords.
there are different types of foil, but theyr just various grips.
cutlass isnt even a name of a sword.
epees are also a lot heavier than the other two swords. Sabres will sometimes break skin if used without protection.
