Should I use "and" before the last item in a list following “i.e.,” or “e.g.,” within parentheses (e.g., (e.g., planes, trains and automobiles) or (e.g., planes, trains, automobiles))? I write in APA style.

    The former is proper.

You can use either properly, but to use "and" will sound more formal.

In an informal setting you could consider using "etc." eg "cows, sheep, dogs etc."
