  • Yeah I dont believe I recall seeing one anywhere. I think a chatroom would detract people from answering/asking questions as well leaving comments. Since this site is all about questons I think that having a chatroom isnt really necessary. And really if you think about it this site is really just like a differet type of forum, which is similar to a chatroom.
  • We have a seperate forum http://z4.invisionfree.com/Question_Sac/index.php?act=idx
  • Coming from a shy person who wouldn't dare venture into most chat rooms, yes.
  • Combine AB with AIM? Genius! It would save us trouble with comments.
  • yes, absolutely! There r so many intelligent people on here, and that is always good to absorb good knowledge from others.
  • That would be so great!! I have noticed that a lot of the questions asked, especially in work relationships need immediate answers. I feel it would definately help speed up the answer time, overall benefitting the users. Great question!
  • Hell yeah! Just make sure the blocking features are in place; trolls could get NASTY!!!
  • Yes!!! It is kind of already a chat room right now but you can't talk to each other quickly. We should go tell Joel to make one!
  • excellent idea!
  • I like the idea. Additionally, I would like a chat room where everyone thinks I'm really cool and handsome, and where Marcia Brady treats me like I'm Davy Jones. I have to go. The nurse said it's time for my meds.
  • that would be cool
  • of course i would just love to chat with everyone here, start up a petition and we all sign it.
  • Yeah, that would be really cool. Most people on answerbag are intelligent and nice.
  • NO I feel that answer bag is doing well because of that seperation! if you want to chat you can e mail or go to a chat room else where> But thats just my oppinion ! ;)
  • I would say yes but... too much of a good things is _________.
  • yeah i do, and it would be cool if as well as a 'personal' chat room you could have a 'question' chatroom that when the question is answered it can then be saved and archived for people in the same situation.
  • Yes that would be a great idea. It may help people to get to know when a person is joking or not . Then they would not be upset at some comments. I must admit I seem pretty hardboiled but am shy and do get hurt easily by some comments
  • Um.... When would I get my PAYING gig in then?!
  • Absolutely Yes ! I've met many peeps here that I would like to chat with..
  • UPDATE:I have been thinking about this and have changed my mind. This is the most current thought. And perhaps both arguments are valid. Second Post: YES. HAVE A CHATROOM. Draining some of the less reflective participants off would help those here who do have something to contribute to have better access to the boards. Those who are here to socialize can chat. The ones here to AB will be freed from their influence. First post: OBVIOUSLY THE ANSWER TO GET POINTS IS "YES", But on the other hand, wouldn't this disperse the community and the information on Answerbag? As it is, all our thoughts are public and we all form a tighter or at least better informed community. CHAT ROOMS can be useful, or full of snarky, useless chitchat. Something AB has been spared. Thanks for listening to an alternative concern. Both of them!
  • yes, there are some i would like to talk to.
  • Yeah, that would be good. Though Max Power did set this forum up, which is sort of used as an AB chatroom http://z4.invisionfree.com/Question_Sac/index.php?act=idx
  • Sure, why not?
  • no if u want to chat there are other website AB is fine how it is
  • Nah. I like things the way they are. If someone wants to contact me bad enough, they can post a comment or email me at my address listed on my profile. Should we determine a need to chat, there are plenty of services to do it on.
  • I think that would be dangerous. The board would implode!
  • yes, I think sometimes it would be fun to have a real go at it in real time. I would like to be able to query some folks on their answers, I don't want to track them down (maybe they don't want to hear from me), in a chat room you know they are up for that or they wouldn't be there. Or like the man who was looking for a bird to mate with his, it might be easire to have a back and forth conversation. i know this can be achieved in different ways, but what would be the disadvantage of a chat room?
  • Well, the answer is either a Yes or No, who is the twit who keeps regularly giving me negatives. But not to worry I'm out of here. To the sensible contributors out there, thanks, I recieved some good answers, as for the "Ninnies", well, they can go & get lost in Space.
  • yes, it would be a great idea, we could chat instead of occupiying the comments section on each answer...
  • Already done! Though it's a forum as opposed to a "chat" room, which I think is far more condusive to the AB "mission", as it were. Started by Max-power, everyone is welcome to check it out, though you must register. C'mon over! http://z4.invisionfree.com/Question_Sac/index.php?
  • Well, some troll blew through here- I reversed what I could on the last 10 or so. I type about 20 wpm, so a room would keep me all night on one person, but it would sure help avoid situations like this: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/17653 TOO much crap for just throwing out a comment on an answer. Attacking trolls? Now, we know where they come from. So, a chat room? Good or bad? I really don't know!
  • I think its a good idea.
  • I think that is a perfect idea. It would be nice to chat with people on the site. It would be helpful to have someone in my life to chat with friends from the site.I vote yes, it is a great idea!
  • yes only if would be free
  • Yes, I agree.
  • Technically, it never was specifically AB's chatroom. It's just another chatroom that was directed to AB's url. Even if it is not posted or shown anywhere you can always get on. http://gabbly.com/answerbag.com
  • Um, well-since they DO now I believe....
  • Yes, I most certainly do.
  • Yeah, that could be fun, and it would allow you to discuss some of these question topics a lot easier!
  • Yes, for my second answer, they do. http://gabbly.com/answerbag.com Not really theirs, but it is what you would consider an AB chatroom. It works pretty well.
  • I gave it a good go when they offered us the gabbly chat as an option. But I actually found it to be distracting, and a tad overwhelming all at once. It is near impossible to chat and do things on AB at the same time. I like commenting much better, actually. Though I think they should make a means of being able to do so on profiles, or messaging, or something. Going between questions and conversations with so many people throws me off sometimes.
  • I think there is a chat of some sort. I haven't used it. I don't think it's a room. It's some sort of communication between users that I am not familiar with. I chat with my AB friends through IM's. I do think it would be fun to have a chat room, but I think the purpose of AB would get lost. It is afterall an information site. Friendships are a side benefit. :)
  • I would like to see a "Chat about this answer" link next to each answer... while I love to comment as much as the next person (and receive them), a lot of comment chains really don't deserve to be preserved for all time -- they're just people socializing, etc. Being able to pop up a chat window would take those conversations off-line a bit, make them move much faster (no page refreshing!) and prevent them from clogging up the 'bag with endless records of every burp that entered someone's mind. I'm not complaining about the socializing, I do a lot of it too. It's just that comment chains are a clumsy place for it.
  • I DO!!! i really want to be able to talk with the great baggers and the staff, i have many ideas that could be added to the site...
  • Three contributions and yet! You guessed it, no rating.
  • Retroglide's answer is perfect: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/140639/398431 However I would also like to point out that there are Answerbag chat facilities. Please see the links on my profile: http://www.answerbag.com/profile?id=34662
  • I would love a chat site...sometimes we just want to sit and chat and not really think about answers and such . I haven't been here long, but so far I love it! Great site and I am glad that a friend told me about it..but I would like to get to know people from here better in a chat envirnoment..
  • iam not a fan of chat rooms myself, i rather we chat like when we leave comments after answers. but if ABjoel implements it, i will want to give it a try. i was able to chat and meet some nice people on here, red for example!
  • There are two available to AB'ers already. One with gabbly http://gabbly.com/answerbag.com and the other is an off site IRC and Java chat on the StarChat IRC server http://www.starchat.net/chat/?chan=QS for the people that don't have IRC. There's also an offsite forum for Ab'ers with about 50 members, called Question Sac, for discussions about AB. AB Joel and AB Rich are members. http://z4.invisionfree.com/Question_Sac
  • I'll make one right now, I'll set it up on eggdrop latter. OK, it's an IRC chat room: server = adams.freenode.net channel = #answerbag
  • I am not sure yet, kind of new. But you can comment back and forth. So, What's up with you?
  • There's no specific chat room but most of us chat to each other through the comment threads. The best way to meet people and make friends here is to interact with people and get to know them :)
  • nope sorry .. no chat .. no private messages either .. the comment portion is what you got. If it's personal, I'd think twice about it though ...
  • Nope. Comment threads are about as close as you're gonna get;)
  • NO DICE!! But it does have a VIP Lap Dance Room, though!!!
  • If not a chatroom, what about personal messages?
