Just as with all the technology of the past, the industry will continue selling the outdated mediums until there is no market for them. I started buying cassette tapes as an alternative to vinyl records in 1970 and I started buying CD's in 1980 as an alternative to cassette tapes. It wasn't until 2006 that I had the reasonable option of an iPod to replace CD's. The new technology is already here, but the old technology still works for the vast majority of users so the old technology will still be around until the market dries up. Amazingly, there are still quite a number of VHS VCR's being sold.
