I think because it's a symbol used mostly in the UK.
People from the UK can correct me on this, but I believe their keyboards do have the pound symbol - it's what you get when you press 'shift+3' (where the US keyboard has the # symbol). They have a Euro symbol on the '4' key as well, using a special Alt key to access it.
There is a key for £ on All UK layout keyboards and, as Karl Plesz said, there is also a €. I suppose people outside the UK don't really need a pound sign and those that do just have to use Alt + 0163.
it's wired, i'm in france and i've the £ and the $ sign ,but not the euro sign!? ^^
£££££££
There is on mine....
this is what comes when i press control, alt and four ♦
Not every country needs one.
I have a microsoft wireless combo, mouse and keyboard, the mouse sometimes freezes,if i click on something i get the pointing finger,i move it all over and nothing changes on my monitor, but after about 10 minutes or less the picture or writing does change.

You're reading Why isn't there a symbol for pounds on most keyboards?

No, I won't correct you because you are right. Control + Alt + 4 (or Alt Gr + 4) gives us the € symbol. I'm surprised that this question didn't have a lot of Americans saying, "But we do have the pound symbol, here it is #."
