  • I believe that peppered moths were a phenomena in Europe where moths originally started out being white to blend in with the dogwood trees as a sort of camouflage. Through the industrial era, lots of smoke was put out by factories staining the trees. The moths had a very obvious new problem, they were no longer invisible. Therefore the moths who were mutated and born black ended up surviving predators. The white moths died off.
  • From the anti-evolutionary perspective, take a look at the book "Icons of Evolution" by Jonathan Wells which describes how these 3( and 7 other) evidences for evolution have been misrepresented. Haeckel's embryo illustrations from Darwin's time are incorrect though still in use today. The "horse series" of fossils demonstrating change within a species, claims an ancestor/descendant relationship between fossils found in the same strata. Peppered moths photographed on tree trunks do not actually rest on tree trunks and had to be placed by photographers. You will find more eye-opening info in the book.
