oooh! Interesting question. I suppose that without suffering, compassion would be come obsolete. We wouldn't need it.
-
I seem to have had a substantial amount of suffering throughout my life so, And I am usually the one that has the most compassion.I agree without suffering there would be no compassion.
-
Hhmmm ... I can point to countless people who are without, yet they are totally content in their lack. If anything, I would suggest that they are indeed more deserving of compassion than those who may wear their suffering on their shirt sleeve, even to the point of manipulation. Compassion connects directly to grace, or the giving/receiving of something of benefit that is not deserved or earned. We all need that from time to time, though in varying measures.

The true assesment here is above the question itself, it is a matter of faith. In reality, suffering causes fear, sympathy, and allows for a common emotion connection beetween people and stimuli. Compassion for other people does rely on suffering, so therefore if there is'nt one, there is'nt the other.

The word "compassion" means to "suffer with." Passion refers to suffering or pain and "com" has to do with sharing. By that strictest definition, compassion could not exist without suffering.
-
The suffering I have endured has taught me a great deal about compassion. To put it VERY simply, I could never feel that strongly for another's pain until I myself, felt pain.
-
Compassion wouldn't exist without suffering, because compassion is the result only of suffering.
-
Thats on the movie "a walk to remember" i lovee that moviee, so sad.
-
No, without compassion there would be a lot more suffering.
-
I'd say yes. Just like if we didn't have wars then we wouldn't have military doctors.
-
Yes, or so I believe. Firstly, Hall and Oates said in a certain song that it's so easy to hurt others when you can't feel pain. (In "Rich Girl," a 70's Oldie.) I also believe G-d. sends us pain and troubles for us to keep our compassion for others alive.

If you mean: Without suffering would there be compassion? I would say yes. People who have never suffered are capable of compassion.
