Because they're comparing it to things that work... Windows XP, Linux, Mac OS X. Things which more or less do their job without a lot of complaining, things which don't randomly make your network connections go down, slow your applications to a snail's pace, force you to re-learn everything you once knew, prompt you endlessly to confirm actions that you know are safe, etc. Vista is Microsoft's answer to the question "how can we squeeze more money out of the Windows product line when everyone is pretty much content with XP?". It was a bad answer.

People have a hard time accepting change. From what I understand, Vista is a cumulative improvement ov all the windows products to date. Similar to how Firefox was designed to be better than IE7. I have Vista, and I like it.

because they dont know how to configure it without slowing things down. i love the OS like the USC that everyone complains about. Its not that hard to turn it off... but not every one is willing to click in the right places so thats why they say things that aren't exactly true.

Because either they don't have the bleeding edge hardware needed to see this new operating system at it's best, or they don't have the system specifications needed to run Vista the way it was meant to be run, including lots of memory and at least a two core processor. Vista doesn't run well on single core computers. If you don't have a computer with a true core two duo (two individual cores workin in unison) than you will notice a decline in performance, not an increase. Vista specifications are tougher, with a larger amount of memory and an added graphic card instead of an on board one. It is second to nothing when your memory is fat, and your hardware is up to par. If you want to see this Operating System run at its finest, use the 64bit one, and load up on memory. It will recognize and utilize every GIG. Sweet Operating System if you meet the new specifications, if your going to run your old comupter on this OS, best stay with XP.

Many books could be written.....

I don't have problems with Vista, but added security is a pain in the neck. When you get a message "You are not authorized to perform this function .." though you are the only user/owner of the computer, makes you very depressed. :(( I had to install an additional little program in order to have an option "Take an Ownership" to work with different folders, or download extra wallpaper etc.
