Maybe the electorate believes that all politicians are corrupt, so they try to vote for the least corrupt choice. OR another theory is that people vote for politicians who they think will be corrupt in their favor. Also, I'd like to add that I am of the opinion that most politicians are not corrupt. They are honest public officials trying to serve their communities. It's a tough job, and they get blamed for a lot of things that they have no control over.

Because they have power and money. They buy votes.

First you must find a politician who is not corrupt. That is next to impossible. People are mislead into thinking that their votes count or that voting solves something. It doesn't. Electing a Gambino or Gotti is not the answer and when you do you get the same result. Voting is the ultimate form of enabling. It is time for the people to run the show. It could not turn out worse.

I have wondered that myself plenty of times. In Louisiana we have a terrible rate of politicians who are under indictment or in prison. William Jefferson is the latest. He was re-elected even though he was indited. I mean, come on. It is positively disturbing. I think the reason is that the people who vote are ignorant. That is all I can see.

there arent any other choices ! they are all corrupt in some way or another !

To simplify it: most people do not think for themselves and succumb to emotion rather than FACTS and LOGIC. . In the upcoming presidential election, we have a choice to elect someone into office who doesn't pander to special-interest groups or large corporations. His name is Ron Paul, and he is probably the most principled and honest politician out there. I HIGHLY suggest checking out his website and youtube channel: http://www.ronpaul2008.com and http://www.youtube.com/RonPaul2008dotcom

there are several possibilities: (1) they may be choosing the lesser of evils. (2) They may believe that the politician is corrupt, but that is outweighed by his/her policies, effectiveness, and abilities. (3) The people may be corrupt and like the idea of being able to buy what they want from their politician. (4) He/she may otherwise do a lot of good and win a lot for the underdog. (5) Favors and promises of favors. (6) Stupidity. Take your pick.

Who would never be corrupt should throw the first stone... <irony> Everybody knows that many politicians are corrupts. The big newspapers tell it to you all the time. And the people who are reading these newspapers, they are certainly not corrupt, they would certainly not be corrupt if they were in the situation of those politicians... </irony> To your question: 1) Corrupt politicians are normally not elected. But elected politicians become sometimes corrupt. Corrupt politicians must mostly resign, if it is proven and not just a supposition. 2) If a corrupt politician was elected, that would prove that people prefer this politician over his concurrent, because of other aspects. (The concurrent could be even more corrupt). If the people want a politician back, even if he was corrupted, this could mean that he succeeded in convincing them that he would not do it again.
