I like it. I just wish it had more to do with what our country (America) was like (or wants to be like) today, instead of recalling our violent birth as a nation.

Well, its ok, there are bits I like, bits I don't. God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us; God save the Queen! This bit's alright, the queen is a nice lady with a crappy taste in colours for her 2 piece skirt suits, but she does have some fabulous hats. I don't really believe in God, but if he can save people, he might as well save the queen, even if she doesn't seem to need saving. O Lord our God arise, Scatter her enemies And make them fall; Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On Thee our hopes we fix, God save us all! Well, I think this bit it odd. This is basically saying 'our enemies are liars and idiots, God piss em up'. I think it might be having a dig at the French, particularly the bit about 'confound their politics'. And don't we seem to all rely on god to do the tough stuff and save us? But ah well Thy choicest gifts in store On her be pleased to pour; Long may she reign; May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice, God save the Queen! Now is it just me, or does the queen get way too many presents anyway? And she doesn't defend the law, she just sort of waves a bit and be's nice to people. Not in this land alone, But be God's mercies known, From shore to shore! Lord make the nations see, That men should brothers be, And form one family, The wide world over. This is nice, I like this bit. Its all about the world uniting and its what I 100% agree with (except the God bit). Its showing love for other countries, which is great! From every latent foe, From the assassins blow, God save the Queen! O'er her thine arm extend, For Britain's sake defend, Our mother, prince, and friend, God save the Queen! This is pretty much saying we look after our own, and will fight our arse off if we have to, which is true. And yes, we fight for the queen, family and friends. Funny that, it seems more like we are fighting for our government these days Lord grant that Marshal Wade May by thy mighty aid Victory bring. May he sedition hush, And like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush. God save the Queen! I think this is a bit out of order. Poor Scottish people! I mean, that was AGES ago, why is this still in there? And who is Marshall Wage anyway? All in all, its not bad. Its a tradition, and I'm a sucker for tradition sometimes. Its a piece of our heritage, and so I love it really. But I think Bill Bailey has the right idea if we were to have a new anthem:
-
Oh Canada! sung with way too much beer...
-
The Israeli national anthem (Hatikva, the hope) sung at a tour of auschwitz... after touring auschwitz we spontaneously all brake out in Hatikva (the Hope) national anthem of Israel, you can see the gas chambers in the back round

While the Scots still officially have the British national anthem there are many times when other tunes/songs are used instead, such as football and rugby. Usually it is Flower of Scotland that is played: O Flower of Scotland, When will we see Your like again, That fought and died for, Your wee bit Hill and Glen, And stood against him, Proud Edward's Army, And sent him homeward, Tae think again. The Hills are bare now, And Autumn leaves lie thick and still, O'er land that is lost now, Which those so dearly held, That stood against him, Proud Edward's Army, And sent him homeward, Tae think again. Those days are past now, And in the past they must remain, But we can still rise now, And be the nation again, That stood against him, Proud Edward's Army, And sent him homeward, Tae think again. 0 Flower of Scotland, When will we see your like again, That fought and died for, Your wee bit Hill and Glen, And stood against him, Proud Edward's Army, And sent him homeward, Tae think again. Now, it is quite nasty about the English, so many Scots now believe the Scotland the Brave is a better anthem. Hark when the night is falling Hear! hear the pipes are calling, Loudly and proudly calling, Down thro' the glen. There where the hills are sleeping, Now feel the blood a-leaping, High as the spirits of the old Highland men. Chorus: Towering in gallant fame, Scotland my mountain hame, High may your proud standards gloriously wave, Land of my high endeavour, Land of the shining river, Land of my heart for ever, Scotland the brave. High in the misty Highlands, Out by the purple islands, Brave are the hearts that beat Beneath Scottish skies. Wild are the winds to meet you, Staunch are the friends that greet you, Kind as the love that shines from fair maiden's eyes. (chorus) Far off in sunlit places, Sad are the Scottish faces, Yearning to feel the kiss Of sweet Scottish rain. Where tropic skies are beaming, Love sets the heart a-dreaming, Longing and dreaming for the homeland again. (chorus) It is used for the Commonwealth Games, and is a lovely tune as well. The last tune I know that is considered a Scottish anthem is Scots Wa Hae, but I won't lyricise it here. Scotland is lucky, then, to have 4 National Anthems to choose from, depending on the occasion.

I don't particularly like ours (O Canada) except that it comes in 2 flavours - I always sing it in the opposite language to everyone else just to be contrary. In fact, I think that most national anthems just sound too much like dirges. I like 'Scotland the Brave' though, but I don't think it's an official anthem like 'Flower of Scotland.'

I suppose the British (or is it English) national anthem is a very rousing and patriotic little tune, that was more suited to the time of the British Empire and could now do with being updated. My favourite national anthem is the South African one - it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

"The Star Spangled Banner" is difficult to sing, but it still sends chills up and down my spine and I sing it whenever I hear it in a public place. I sing it loudly and lustily and, after everyone turns around and looks at me as if I have two heads, they start singing too. I also love to hear other people's anthems and watch them sing them with pride and love of country. When I was in Alberta in September, I kept wanting to sing "Oh Canada." I also love "God Save the Queen" and the "Ode to Joy" which was adopted by the Eurpoean Union.

Egads, our national anthem is simply too difficult to sing. Even for most of my professional peers. Its far too rangy for most folks. This is evident in the way the Star-Spangled Banner is butchered by popular singers at sporting events all over the country (with their interpolated notes and slopping scooping up to the high notes!)
-
I like "America the Beautiful" more than the "Star Spangled Banner".
-
I don't mind our national anthem. Tune wise it's alot better than most. I think us(England), U.S.A and France probably have the most catchiest anthems. (if you can call any national anthem catchy?)
-
Ours (the American) is okay. I like "My country tis of thee" better though.
-
Not particularly...but I am not one to complain. (America)
-
I't okey. don't listen to it up in my room, but of couars on 17 mai and so on.
-
When sung well, the Star Spangled Banner can be quite impressive. I do, however, get very annoyed when the people chosen to sing it butcher it and don't know the right words. When done well, it brings tears to my eyes... And, although it really has 4 verses, we really only ever use one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star-Spangled_Banner

The Eyes of Texas; University of Texas fight anthem, adopted as the unofficial Republic of Texas national anthem. I once did know a president Away down South, in Texas. And always, everywhere he went, He saw the Eyes of Texas. The Eyes of Texas are upon you All the livelong day, The Eyes of Texas are upon you, You cannot get away. Do not think you can escape them At night or early in the morn’ – The Eyes of Texas are upon you Till Gabriel blows his horn. Sing me a song of Prexy, Of days long since gone by. Again I seem to greet him And hear his kind reply. Smiles of gracious welcome Before my memory rise, Again I hear him say to me, "Remember Texas’ Eyes."

Love my own, also like the Ukrainian enough that I memorized it. Here's a translation, too bad I can't reproduce the rhyme or upload the melody, which is terrific: Ukraine still hasn't perished! Not its honor, nor its freedom. Fate will still smile upon us, Young brotherhood. May our foes perish Like dew in the sun, And we, brethren, Shall rule our own land. Body and soul we pledge for our independence, And to show that we're true-born Cossacks.

Mines is in Tagalog (The philippines anthem) I still cant memorize it though... :D
