Nope. =]

I don't think mountains are measured by strength. But if you believe in God, i assume he could do whatever he'd like.
-
No. Technically, He can build a mountain that's so strong, He can't move it, but then He could remove pieces of the mountain, move it to the desired new place, then put back the pieces He removed. :-P.

This is the same logical paradox presented in my similar question, "If a deity is all-powerful, can a deity create an object so heavy that the deity cannot lift it?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/89839 The logical paradox is that either a yes or no answer means that Deity cannot "do anything" (aka: be all powerful). If you answer yes, that means Deity cannot lift the mountain; thus, Deity cannot do everything. If you answer no, that means Deity cannot create such a mountain; thus, Deity is not capable of doing everything.

First off I didn't know god was a he. This is a contradicting each other maybe both could be done?
-
Your basically asking if God can overpower himself. So no he can't make a mountain that even he can't move because God can't overpower himself. I don't see this as not being all powerful because all powerful means you are more powerful then every other being. It doesn't mean you can overpower yourself.
-
This is a paradox. Thus, unanswerable. I prefer the "Can God create a jelly donut so big that he can't eat it version?" found here on AB. I still contend that God prefers bagels!
-
the old prayer goes.."God is good , God is great, God can do anthing"..now we just sit back and wait
-
I am sure God have many better things to do, than take up suggestions or 'çhallenges'like yours. Lets leave God to is job and lets all do our bit to move mountains that have already been placed on the Earth.
-
YES God can build a mountain so strong he can't move it himself. Ability and power lies not only in strength but the ability to become weaker. For example, when he sent his only son to Earth, Jesus. Jesus became weaker, but in it he found strength with the people.
-
A possible answer that you can come up with is that God is powerful and capable of doing anything but at the same time is a pure logical individual. So now what is the logic in doing so? And if you say he should do it to prove himself then the answer is that God creats things cause its in their faith to be created and in his faith to creat, he's not proving anythinf to anybody by doing so.

That's so primary school question.

Mis-read the question. Previous answer removed. +3

I've always thought this question has to do less with omnipotence and more to do with promises. . God makes several promises in the Bible and the Jesus-era promises reform some of the earlier ones - or seem to. I don't really want to get minutely theological here. . Short of promising anyone but Himself not to do something, clearly as an omnipotent being he can change His mind. But if God makes a mountain and promises mankind he won't move it, is He bound? . No idea. . All part of the wacky fun of being omniscient and omnipotent and dealing with a bunch of pedantic bipedal sin factories I suppose.
-
Therein lies the paradox with omnipotence. It cannot exist.
-
When he wants the mountain to be strong, he will make it strong, and himself weak, and vice versa when he wants to move it. He is also capable of annihilating stupid people who ask stupid questions.
-
no ..there is no mountain HE cannot move nor any need for one either.....

Matt.17:20 - And Jesus said unto them, (his disciples,) Because of your unbelief: for verily I (Jesus) say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. The above passage shows that even man can do the impossible, if he has faith. The modern man has not figured out yet how men thousands of years ago managed to build the Pyramids. That will be a more challenging question than the one Tranny asked.
-
Do you think you are clever? Are you thinking to yourself, "Ah ha! I finally got something on those religious people. Clever me." Well this question and variations on it have been going around for ever.
-
i would ask if god can forgive sins which jesus did before he was crucified then why not just forgive them without being crucified.
-
Yes. We call it the stubborn human heart. Fortunately He gave US the power to move it.
-
Mathematically speaking, while demonstrating high intellect, such a wasteful creation could be started but it would never be finished. ;-) tequila time!
-
Sure. He could cause Himself to temporarily forget He was God, thereby sentencing Himself to roam the planet... ...like US.
-
So 'NO' God cannot do anything. He cannot deny himself, i.e. no contradictions, no lies, he cannot die, etc. ... "He is who He is": 2 Timothy 2:13 "If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself." Mountains, bagels and other things which deny who God is cannot exist. You can just talk about them:-)).

No!!.....The idea that God can do anything is a myth created by churchmen and religionists. There are msny things the Creator cannot do without in any way infringing on His omnipotence. For instance, the Creator cannot make 2+2=5, nor can He make a married bachelor.
-
If God made you he can do anything that's for sure.
-
It is amazing to me that people even attempt to use feeble human logic in relation to God. We just do not have any frame of reference to be able to imagine how God thinks or what He is capable of doing. His power is not restricted only to things that we can fathom. He has secrets known to no one. Thats my opinion.
-
Ah, one of the great mysteries... I think so because God CAN do anything so in this case He would choose to not be able to pick up the mountain. Just like how He could make us all love Him back if He wanted to, but instead chooses not to because He loves us enough to make the choice ourselves.
-
True and false! God can do anything except those things that can't be done such as build character in people.
-
The premise is not correct, therefore the question is invalid and can't be answered. It is no different than asking "Do you still beat your children?"
-
If "God can do anything" then the answer is yes, he can. You've answered the question yourself! (Of course, I don't know how God can do this, but that's not the question.)
