  • Nope, just jokes, the English make fun of the Irish, the Scots make fun of the English, its just fun :-)
  • Definition of Racism: hatred or intolerance of another race or other races I would think an Irish joke falls in there
  • Well they are racist - anything that makes fun of or condescends another race is racist. However, that doesn't stop them from being funny.
  • I didn't take offence. I'm curious about how there appears to be a scale on which people rate racism according to race. After all not long ago in your country it wasn't a rare site to see signs in pubs reading "no blacks, no irish, no dogs". I don't blame a nation or a race just the individual. Thanks Rince
  • Not if the irish are telling em!!!!!!
  • Being 1/2 Irish, I do not find Irish jokes to be harmful to me. They are probably racist, but they are also extremely funny. Want to hear a joke? An Irishman walked out of a bar. eh.
  • em its a hard one, as we all seem to be a bit too PC these days. I am scottish and at work, spoke to an australian customer on the phone who had attitude, she gave me her telephone number too quickly for me write down and when I asked her to repeat it she said, 'do you have to be irish to work there' this however I did take offence to and said excuse me, she repeated it again and then I clarified that I was scottish. I can't believe that someone would say that in professional circumstances, probably because she was the customer and I was the supplier she thinks its acceptable, or am I being too sensitive?
  • Racism refers to genetic ethnicity so, no. There are many genetic ethnicities in Ireland. This is about a nation, not a race. Bigoted would be the more correct term, I would think. I also think that all bigotry is equally onerous. That includes racism. I try to avoid telling bigoted jokes. Actually, I just plain do not tell bigoted jokes. The only jokes I tell that are about any group of people are jokes about my own people. That is, to me, the only polite way to go.
  • yes Irish jokes are racist! Im Irish and its considered very racist of me to crack jokes about other cultures like Asian, Black, Arab, ect. Why do so many people think its 'ok' to do so? the answer to this is that we don't take ourselves as seriously as other cultures, even though we as a people have suffered similar injustices in our past as other races we tend not to be so hypersensitive as for instance black people. why should people portray us as stupid and backward people when the reality is that we are an educated race of people who have for such a small country achieved a lot in comparison to so many other countries. but jokes are jokes and that's all. I thank the British empire for such jokes the only problem with this is that the kiwis and the Aussies stupid as they are seem to take these jokes seriously. (and they consider us to be backwards) sheep loving jerks!!
