  • UK answer, the test is recommended for some people, but is optional and you can refuse it yes :-)
  • I refused an amnio, and I am in America. The test screens possible birth defects, and my risk was determined low by the ultrasound, so there was no reason to risk the baby. My cousin had to have one because the ultrasound showed possible neural tube defects, and she had to remain still for either 24 or 48 hours after the amnio because of the risk of miscarriage. Her baby turned out to be fine, and she knew 100% that it was a girl.
  • You can refuse any test or medical treatment you like!!
  • in our country an amino is certainly not a forced procedure, women choose to do it. I had it for my 2nd child, he showed no abnormalities, but there is a tendancy for their toe nails to be altered because of the scan, interestingly enough, this happened to my son. It has to do with the date of the scan, coinciding with the development of the nail bed., It in fact, turned the nail bed inside out if you like, his toe nails dont face downawrds they turn slightly upwards, It is noticabale, but not a major thing.
