Either because they want to have control over you, even though they don't want you, or because they genuinely care for you and don't know how to handle it. The problem is there is no way of knowing which is the case short of learning to read minds which i'm sure we all wish for at times!

because they cannot be alone and are mental. Better to not put your life on hold for such a tool.

Ego trippin. They may not want you .. but they sure as hell don't want anyone else wanting you or vice versa.
