  • Our society, whether we like to admit it or not, is media-centred. "What's up" is what we see on TV. The 2 hot-spots for media and celebrities are CA and NY. Because we connect media with "what's up", people from these places should know all about what's up. (Kinda' how Texans should know about cowboys, Washingtonians all drink coffee and Idahoans should be potato experts.)
  • California is out of touch with the rest of the planet. Therefore, their euphoric opinions don't count in the whole scheme of things. After all, this is a State that thinks that it would be a good idea to turn control of their thermostats over to the government. I say, give it back to Mexico. ;-)
  • Because some trends start here..you have San Francisco up north and Hollywood down south..you have a lot of, shall we say, "independent, creative" people. Those who idolize celebrities..well, we have a lot of movie stars, TV stars, athletes. That's my guess. :) Happy Sunday! :)
  • I've never been there, but it seems like a really chilled out, relaxed environment and THAT is what's up :)
  • Supposedly that is where the new fashions take hold and the movie and tv people live. NY area is the same. We here in the Midwest don't 'get the word' quite as fast. Either that, or we don't conform quite as fast.
  • I think it is that California is most likely the most expensive place in the states to live. Those that live there have more money and with money gives power and with power comes respect. People see those with more money as successful and many strive to be what they are. But this is just a guess as I have never heard that people think they knows whats up.
  • When something catches on in California, it soon spreads to the rest of the country, because there are a lot of people who live in California that many people throughout the country idolize and emulate. So, it's not that they "know what's up," everyone just copies off them.
  • That's the 'Left Coast', at least over here. We always think of them as liberal, airhead types but after meeting so many here I know that's not the case. It's another 'stereotype' that's pretty much hogwash yo...:)
  • excuse me? :) I think you meant New York! other than hollister, hollywood, weed, a funny governor, earthquakes, san francisco... wait.. that's becoming a long list...umm... whatever, they dunno anything LOL =D
