Although everyone thinks it's Steven Hawking with an IQ or slightly over 200, it's actually Marilyn vos Savant with and IQ of 228.

Please be sure to note however, that results can very from test to test and from day to day.

There is no set way to measure intelligence as there are too many aspects to take into account (memory, problem-solving, etc), so don't put too much faith in your IQ rating. You could easily score 140 on an IQ test and still seem dumber than the dog next door. :-)

On a more modern level, the highest IQ ever recorded was by Marilyn vos Savant with 228; however that is a mental status ratio IQ (used for children). Adult IQs are measured by standard deviations, in which her adult IQ would compute to about 185, which is lower than famous chess master Bobby Fischer (187).

Other contenders would be Leonardo da Vinci, estimated at ~200. Another would be William James Sidis, estimated also at a similar level. Statistically speaking, the highest possible IQ would be a probability of about SD 6.7, or 1 in 100 billion (total number of people who ever lived). In SD IQ, that is about 200. Thus, theoretically speaking, that is the maximum IQ possible. All the preposterous stories about people with IQs of well over 200 are impossible. In fact, no one has probably ever reached an adult IQ of 200.

There are, however, close contendors. An example of an ultra-elite group of intellectuals would be the Giga society, which accepts people only with an IQ of 196 or higher. This would mean a 1 in 1 billion probability. Currently, there are 6 members, which would technically mean these are the 6 smartest people in the world.

The highest rating of a person that was very intellectual may have never been recorded. I believe that the prize goes Albert Einstein. I mean think about it, he helped come up with the theory of relativity! I have posted two links on this subject. He was also the person of the century.

Funny, if you do a search on Goggle for William Alfred Quannigton the ONLY thing that turns up is this page, if this person had this IQ would there not be something somewhere about him on the net, I beleive one of the above posters is writing some type of fantasy

no i.q tests can really measure intelligence . the most intelligent person may not have given any iq tests at all . the iq tests too are very unscientific . i think einstien had the maximum iq but it was never recorded !

Marilyn VosSavant has an IQ of 228, which is the highest recorded IQ in history. She has a weekly trivia column in Parade magazine (part of the Sunday LA Times) which is how I know of her.

I think this fascination with the IQ "high score", as seen above in Mr. Anderson's book topic, is silly, and I say this being an adult that tested above 200 when in college. Incidentally, the "Anderson" top 10 is inaccurate.

Why not stop hiding behind these labels, and try being more productive in society. It's what we do, not what we think we can do that really matters.

The highest IQ was also that of Iqbal Saleh Abba. It was 235 and this was the ceiling so far for living adults tested under strict psychological supervision of a very highly qualified psychologist. vos Savant has inflated her IQ- her childhood score in Missouri was 186. Hoeflin who connived with her to promote his pseudo Mega test contrived the score with false statistics and illogical statistics to 228 or even 230.

It is a common misconception that Marilyn vos Savant has the highest IQ in the world. Althought "Graendal" is correct that her score is indeed 228, that score is only one of 2 types of IQ scores. By the terms of the IQ scores that most of the people know as our IQ, Marilyn only has an IQ of 186.

Thus, the person who has the highest IQ is actually a South Korean by the name of Kim Oong Yong, holding an Guiness Record of an outstanding IQ of 210.

IQ test alone does not establish inteligence. The really intelignet people are those with IQ of above 160 and at the same time of certain other qualities like orderly mental faculty which allows them to think totally defferently from others and to produce new ideas which others could only wonder. On this term I belive Leonardo Davinci must be crowned as the most intelligent person ever.

I'm fairly certain there is a 200+ IQ score but if you think <0.5% of the population are 140 or above, that means about 4 standard deviations, so 10 points is about 1 deviation, a 200+ score is 10 standard deviations
    7σ 99.99999999974 %
    That's...
74 people in every 100 billion people will have an IQ of over 170, if the assumptions I have made above are correct :)

The highest IQ ever recorded is probably what people are wondering about. I have found that the highest IQ ever recorded is Marylin Vos Savant, however I do not believe this statement. Her IQ was 228 and was tested when she was a child, wich means the test she took when she was a child was a simple test made for children. The test she took when she was an adult was 186, and it was not taken as a test for children, but for adults. I have found that she negates to the idea of taking the test again, (she probably is afraid of losing her record.) I believe that the smartest person that ever lived was god, nonetheless his IQ is estimated 350+.

The highest IQ ever RELIABLY recorded belonged to South Korean Oong Yong Kim. Unlike Marilyn Vos Savant whose IQ was measured in her 40's and skewed by her advanced age, experience, and education, Mr. Oong Yong Kim was more reliably tested when he was a mere 4 years of age. He got into the Guinness Book of World Records for this feat. But the Records officers never take into account that the more reliable IQ measurements are done at childhood ages with no skewing factors.
And unlike James Siddis who no longer has the prodigal gift in mathematics amd has never been tested or verified to fluently speak several languages as a child, Mr. Oong Yong Kim, on the other hand, has been reliably verified as both a mathematical prodigy and a multi-fluent linguist since the ripe old age of 4 years. Moreover, during a 1960's television show in Japan, Oong Yong Kim performed integral calculus mentally (without pen or paper), composed poetry, and fluently mastered 4 languages at the age of 4, without the benefit of any academic education or institutional training. His mental age being that of an extraordinary Ph.D. graduate of 26 years of age would lead one to believe that his theoretical IQ was way over 600 points!!!!! Measure it yourself mathematically below:

    [(mental age)/(chronological age)] x 100 = IQ

Oong Yong Kim's theoretical I.Q. is calculated below:

    IQ = [(mental age of 26)/(4 years of age)] x 100 = 650

Oong Yong Kim undisputed highest ranking IQ is supported by his South Korean people's HIGHEST IQ RANKING IN THE WORLD as independantly verified by various scientists in England, Finland, Austria, and Zurich/Switzerland in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Moreover, South Korea has consistently scored the highest math and science test scores in the world from the 1990's to the present day. And if that wasn't all, South Koreans were ranked by Harvard University as the most competent race on earth!!!!!!!! What more proof does anyone want in regards to this subject matter. I mean really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I rest my case.

It's strange how nobody even bothered to mention Kim Ung-Yong, who has a verified IQ of 210.

By the same standards, Marilyn Vos Savant has a verified IQ of 186, not 228.

So it's actually Kim Ung-Yong who holds the record for highest IQ ever, according to Time and Guinness.

What IQ test you using? Somebody gets a highest IQ- then somebody else makes up an easy test to make more money. I have taken at least 50 different IQ tests. They are getting easier and easier, to me.
The College Board gives 18 years of age and young(and age liars) an easy SAT test. And then they started giving retests- as many as anybody wants.

These answers of 300 are crap, because they are all estimated. The lady from Parade took a child's IQ test, so that is crap also. I believe that the 180-200 zone is is the area where the world's smartest score. Although it is possible to go above 200, there is no documented proof! There are most likely around 150 people living today with an IQ of 185 and above (Not to brag, butI happen to be one(187)). This is why the 300 stuff is bull, I would estimate that the highest exact IQ ever recorded was around 199.

I find your question very humorous. Based on some assumptions I have about why you would like to know. Let me list a few ways in which you have not viewed this question:

Many psychologists and scientists will not disclose the actual scores of IQ tests.

Does a recorded IQ score measure the person’s productive thinking versus their reproductive thinking?

How do the recorded IQs measure divergent and convergent thinking ability?

Who decided definitively how to measure intelligence?

How does an IQ test measure how many ways a person can conceive of something?

Should the true record of intelligence be the amount of useful creations, inventions, theories, etc offered by these individuals? Based on that I feel any test that shows that Marilyn Vos Savant (Ask Marilyn Columnist) is more intelligent than Leonardo Da Vinci to be flawed. Recorded IQ is flawed human measurement. The only times I ever received IQ tests were during my times in the hospital when some psychologist wanted to know why therapy was not very effective on me. Because after three different levels of IQ test even repeating the last one twice just to make sure they were reading it right, MMPIs, and other tests. I can tell you that they were very concerned about me and said I measured higher than both of the therapists in the room combined. Alas, they still never told me my actual score. See I had the ability to think of hundreds of clever ways to stay sick. Despite my intelligence I haven’t nor will I likely ever do anything to help humanity in anyway. So I asked myself if I was truly intelligent how come I haven’t thought of a way in which I would enjoy it? If I was truly intelligent why can I not think of clever ways to fool myself out of my bad habits? I was able to find my way out of my insanity by changing how I thought. I think you get the point. Remember Lex Luthor from Superman? I ask you what good was his intelligence. He never thought of a way to do good things with it? All the intelligence in the world is worthless without the will to use it for the benefit of others. Although I must say I can see how Savants willingness to help others directly with her intelligence is very intelligent. Anyhow...

I certain you can think of many things more important than IQ :-)

Marilyn vos Savant did score 228 on one of the IQ tests she took (the highest ever recorded). She scored 186 on another IQ test. There have been less than a dozen people in history that have ever scored above 200. Steven Hawking and Albert Einstein both had IQ's around 160+ (not 200+). Many of the worlds great geniuses excell only in a given field such as math or physics but may have only average intelligence in other areas. An IQ test covers numerous areas and averages the highs and lows for a total score. A lot of the worlds most intelligent people never took IQ tests. It has been widely accepted the greatest "universal genius" that ever lived was probably William James Sidis (1898 - 1944). His IQ is estimated to have been "well over" 250.

Actually, if Heinrich Von Fersen was talking about Jesus Christ, then he was more or less correct. According to this website: http://www.angelfire.com/ut/JesusChrist1/iq.html

Based on biblical scriptures and his interactions with others, his IQ might have ranged from 300-450.
