No, that's an urban legend. A good hospital will have saws capable of cutting through titanium. Besides, what kinds of emergencies are there where it becomes necessary to cut a ring off a finger? I suppose it could be an issue if the finger becomes mangled in some sort of machinery, but in that case amputation is likely regardless of whether a ring is worn or not.

In fact these rings, the AIRCRAFT GRADE titanium rings, CANNOT be cut off, not even at a hospital. I am a physician and know of cases where someone does something as simple as slams the finger in a car door and has to have the finger amputated! please be careful.

I actually talked to a Doctor about this yesterday, and high grade titanium rings cannot be cut off by any equipment most hospitals have available. His wedding ring is titanium.

Well I'll tell you one thing I DO know -- as I just came home from a jewelry store -- titanium rings can't be resized. So that leads me to believe they probably can't be cut easily either.

titanium can be cut by anything that can cut through stainless steel. any hospital or jewelry store has the equipment to cut it (although titanium needs to be cut twice to fully remove the ring). Tungsten needs to be cracked off using a vice grip, again, hospitals and jewelry stores have the equipment. this rumor was said to be started by jewelers who wanted people to buy gold or something more expensive instead.

well well well.....I JUST purchased one of these rings for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. Unfotunatly it got stuck on his finger. We tried everything from the string trick to windex to freezing his finger and diuretics to shrink it a big. BIG ZIP. SO...I called the Jeweler we purchased it from and she told me exactly what I am reading here....they will have to shatter his knuckle, possible amputate..blah blah blah. NEEDLESS to say I didn't tell him what she said cause it scared the crap outa me so I could only imagine how my tempermental honey was gonna react.I knew I needed the big guns so I called the city's BEST jeweler and they offered to give it a shot..we were there for a total of 20 minutes while this older gentleman used a basic ring cutter and a good squeeze and that badboy was off!!!! Yup, not a problem, just a little time consuming. The people who sell these rings should do a little homework before they scare the shit out of the unsuspecting consumer...
