Why do people downrate when they see an answer they don't agree with? Why have a question if you just expect to be placated and only get answers that make them feel better? What happened to OPINIONS people?

Hi needtoknow... I never downrate anyone for that very reason. Very well said. The only time I have ever downrated anyone for anything is because it was an accident or a glitch.

The point of rating is to communicate you opinion. You're basically giving someone feedback on their answers.It's the point of the game, man. So, I guess the question for you is: Why give an answer if you just expect it to be accepted without challenge? Why should you be able to share your opinion on a person's question, if they shouldn't give their opinion on your answer?

Personally, I never downrate informed, well-stated opinions even if they differ from mine. I much rather comment and discuss the subject, if possible. Then you might learn something more about it and the person opposing your view, it's much more enriching.

For some people they are right, and everyone else is wrong. Some people "bait" with their questions just so they can DR anyone who disagrees with them. It's really childish and juvenile. Some people just love to stir things up, and somehow get some big thrill hitting that - button over and over. And it happens a lot in the political, LGBT and religious questions (the "big three" topics that trolls love to DR). I DR someone for being offensive/rude/abusive.

I feel the very same way needtoknow. There are questions that I would like to ask on a certain topic so that there can be a good discussion but I have pretty much stopped asking because there are people who will ridicule. It's not the downrating that really bothers me but it's the people that want to make trouble that concerns me. I have no problem with other people opinions. I welcome there opinions. They don't have to agree with me. Thanks for the question.

Sometimes I think its just away that some must feel they have power over others. If some of them only knew what was really going on here. I believe less of them would be DRing each other. This is a Great site, with Great people here. Many who will try and do their best, to answer others questions. But most have not yet seen the big picture. And put their focus outside of the box. And realized that there is also a physiological study on human behavior going on here. Studying how people will react over topics. Please forgive me if I am wrong here. For I am just a old country boy. But do to a DRer's name dose not go down, like it dose in the Q&A and comment boxes. Kind of makes this old country boy wonder if he is being used as a ginnie pig or lab rat sometimes. But what ever the case maybe. I am not going to let those who downrate get to me. For to me FRIENDSHIP means much more than any points.........Just my point of view tho.......Plus 5 for your question & take care my FRIEND.......................M.C.S.
