hmmmmmmm......... my school drama program participates in this really prestigious festival/competition in L.A. twice every year called DTASC... anyway, this year one of the categories for competition was Open Musical. The group of 8 or less people participating had to take a musical and condense it into a ten minute period, by cutting out unneccessary scenes and songs. on to the point, our school never perfected ours but I went down with the competitors and checked out ALL the groups participating, and Syracuse School for the Dramatic Arts in Orange County did West Side Story with seven people in ten minutes. It didn't seem rushed at all, and was SO powerful with intricate choreography and great voices. It goes to show that you can take any good musical with two or three main characters you can cut out anything you want and if you do it well you still have something coherent.
