Until the mid-1960s, American society conventionally viewed 21 as the most appropriate age for full adult status, as reflected in most state and federal laws. The Vietnam War brought the age of majority status into the spotlight. Eighteen-year-olds were sent off to kill or be killed, but they could not vote. The result was the 26th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which lowered the voting age to 18 for all elected positions, federal and state. After the 26th Amendment was ratified in 1971, it seemed logical to change all minimum age limits to 18. Most legal minimum ages are still at 18. But, there has been one significant exception: In every state in America, the drinking age has been raised from 18 to 21. Because casino gaming is usually associated with the availability of alcoholic beverages, most states put the minimum age for gambling in a casino at 21. Casino-style games, including slot machines, are also the most dangerous forms of gambling.

I was only a QUARTER of this age when the change took place, right at the start of 197 multiplied by 10.

WHY IS 18 CONSIDERED LEGAL?MY SON IS 17 AND A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL.HE SAYS HE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL HE'S LEGAL IN 5 MONTHS.IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME THAT HE IS STILL IS IMMATURE IN SO MANY WAYS.hE ALREADY BREAKS CURFEW AND IS ON PROBATION FOR B&E.HE'S BEEN SENT TO BOOTCAMP AND EVERYTHING WAS CLOSE TO FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH AFTER HIS RETURN.
HE CAN'T EVEN DECIDE WHAT PEOPLE HE WANTS TO HANG AROUND WITH.LAST YEARS FRIENDS WHO WERE OVER ALL THE TIME ARE NOW PREPS AND DON'T COME AROUND HIM ANY LONGER.THEY STILL DROP BY TO SEE ME YET HAVE NO ANSWERS AS TO WHY HE'S NO LONGER THEIR FRIEND.I KNOW 2 OF THE BOYS WERE IN TROUBLE WITH HIM IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS LAST YEAR AND ARE IN DIFFERENT HOMELIFES NOW AND HAVE SET CURFEWS WHERE THEY DID NOT BEFORE.THEY ARE NOW IN MORE STABLE FAMILY GROUPS MUCH LIKE RYAN'S WITH RULES AND CURFEWS YET NOW HE SAYS THEY ARE NO LONGER HIS FRIENDS.THEY SAY THIS IS NOT THE CASE THAT HE DROPPED THEM.
I CALLED AN ANGER MANAGEMENT COUNSLER TODAY TO SEE IF THAT WOULD BE ANY HELP.

I agree with rainydrop, however, if you can legally kill for your country and get killed while defending your country at 18 years old, I think you should be old enough to drink for your country. It seems to state, that in the USA an 18 y/o old you can do the above, but must be only allowed to drink lemonade while doing so! As to the gambling situation, I would rather an 18 y/o put a dollar in the slot and lose it, then gamble his life in a conflict, that his Government forced upon him.
