Get to a doctor asap. Shingles is deadly. You can lose your sight or get heart probs. You need mdeicine for the rash and monitoring.

Shingles on your head is called Herpes Zoster. It can lead to serious eye problems. Shingles is really painful and the only cure is from your chemist. They can make up a special ointment to use. Luckily it only attacks one side of your face/body.

I am into my third week and a few shingles sores still appearing almost daily as others scab over (one side of head,in ear, neck, chin/face and shoulder) and still getting new ones. I have been on anti-viral meds for the full time, aspirin (nothing prescribed for pain has helped), The nerve pain is the worst and Apo-Gabapentin only helps minimally. Also getting what feels like muscle spasms on affected side of my neck. Wouldn't wish this on anyone. At it's worst, felt like I was being burned alive...used a LOT of ice. Those of you who haven't had this, haven't got any idea what it is like. In my opinion, unless you have, your comments are not helpful.

Have him wear loose clothes. Just the touch of fabric rubbing on you can hurt. I feel for your husband. I had it a few years ago and it really hurts.Good luck.

I don't like to sound negative, but a visit to my Doctor this week has informed me that the nerve pain can last weeks, months or even be permanent. The rash itself is irritating, but the most pain comes when the sores are erupting. Burning and itching precedes the bump. Relief happens when the blister scabs over. The problem is that this rash carries on one sore at a time so there is always something hurting somewhere. I wonder whether or not (the medical profession says no) one can get shingles from another. Just prior to my outbreak, I was near another poor soul who had it. Within days, I did too. Coincidence??

Shingles treatment includes the administration of antiviral drugs (acyclovir, valcyclovir or famcyclovir) and the application of topical treatments for the rash, similar to those for chicken pox. A vaccine is in development for protection specifically against shingles, but it is not yet available to the public

The rash will last until you get the right treatment for it. You should go and see your doctor straight away if you suspect you have it. http://www.shinglesremedy.co.uk/shingles-rash.php

Update 9 mos. later and still having occasional shingles pain, sometimes with the bumps and sometimes only the pain. I have found that antihstamines work on the itching and burning and get me to sleep. I also have some relief taking Siberian Ginsing daily. This is an auto immune disorder and you have the virus for life. The key is a healthy immune system with no stress.
