  • I would've been praying, trying not to freak out.
  • I'd be nervous but I wouldn't freak out because of the better than average landing that I saw involving an A380 a few years ago where the nose gear was 90º out of alignment.
  • No I would not be freaking but I would be saying my prayers .
  • Probably defecating myself in utter terror. I'm not ashamed to admit it.
  • I'd be irritated that I was going to be late for whatever engagement I had in Toronto. As far as the gravity of the situation, this is not that big of a deal. It only gets blown out of proportion by the media and their so-called "aviation experts." I've been a commercial pilot since I turned 23. These scenarios are common and really nothing to be afraid of. The only thing that worries me in this situation is getting in trouble from passenger complaints. You either tell them too much or not enough, both of which tend to cause panic reactions in situations like this. So lets fast forward this to AA1586. I do not know all of the details involved with this flight. If I were sitting in the cabin, provided I knew all of the details of the situation, I would probably be doing my soduku waiting for the fuel to burn off. Unfortunately, the aircraft involved in this incident does not have fuel dumping capability, forcing it to circle instead. My nonchalantness about this situation is intentional because I know firsthand that it is not as threatening as it sounds. Now lets rewind back some years to my time as a first officer for a cargo airline. I experienced a similar incident on finals, except for the nose gear failed to completely extend. There really isn't a freakout on the flight deck, regardless of the pilot's experience. I was flying at the time. I landed the aircraft successfully by following the procedures that all pilots are trained for. If G-force manuevers fail, there is a particular profile you must follow on finals and landing. If you take Jetblue 292 (an A320) as an example, this is exactly what the pilots are trained to do.
