The playwright, Tony Kushner, was born Jewish, but he has not gone on record as to his personal faith. He grew up in Louisiana and went to New York for college. I doubt he was Mormon at any point during his life.

well, let's see here . . . let write a play about gay guys (naked ones at that) and a screwed up mormon couple . . . bet that would get your ass kicked out a conservative church like that

I'm currently studying Angels In America in my Intro to Drama class. I've also got the luck to have 4 people in my class who have done Part One on stage(the teacher being the director.) Though he writes about Mormons and such, he is a Jew. He did his research though, and knows the Mormon, the Jewish and the Christian doctrine.
