  • to find the ionic charge of an element. you first have to determine if the s&p orbitals are full on your outer energy level. if so: your element is neutral. however; if it is not, you have to determine wiether it would take less energy to add or loose said amount of electrons. if you loose electrons it is a + charge. if you gain electrons it is a - charge. then you take the number of protons, and add the number of electrons gained or lost. & that is your ionic charge. yourwelcome.
