  • I don't know about Stanford, but chances are your internet connection uses fiber-optics somewhere along the way between your PC and some remote server. Data (1s and 0s) are transmitted by pulses of light that can change faster ( = higher bandwidth) than electrons moving around in wires. Point-to-point communication by laser is not new. Do you know more about what was supposed to happen?
