  • Depends. I've "ridden out the storm" nearly every time one has come around. (too many times we've left town only to greet the hurricane when we arrived in the "safe zone". Florida sucks like that.) But I don't live in a city that lies below sea level, that is dependent upon faulty engineering to remain dry land.
  • I think that it's a case of natural selection at work.
  • well if they are given fair warning then they are just being foolish. But if it's a sudden type of thing then it's understandable cause they wouldn't have enough time to pack and stuff. in the case of katrina, i don't know if it was sudden or not so i can't say much about that incident.
  • Let them, it will benefit the gene pool in the end
  • Maybe they think they can do it--like people who ride the mechanical bull. Some can ride it, some can't.
  • I personally think that they are foolish...and NOT to expect anyone to come to their immediate rescue when there are people in trouble who have tried to help themselves...
  • I don't think they have enough common sense. +5
  • I live in Florida, and quite a lot of people I know would not evacuate for a hurricane. There are several reasons, but mostly they want to stay there and watch their homes and belongings. Looting is incredibly common after a big storm, mostly when houses are damaged and empty. Other people think it won't be that bad, or they've been through worse. It's easy to call them stupid - but imagine it - leaving every worldly possession behind to go live in a motel for an indefinite amount of time? The prospect sucks when it comes around.
  • have you ever tried to evacuate in Florida?you got two main highways I-75and I-95 and millions of people.i would rather take my chances in my house than in my truck.
  • I don't think it's a smart thing to do. Yeah, once you might be lucky but, the next one might get you. I would ride right out of it.
  • They are wrong, and are risking their lives to prove what? Nothing.
  • i think we should respect their choice...and not risk other lives to rescue them when they change their mind or after the storm. it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to pay for a body bag and a toe tag in advance...the can always get a refund later if they didn't need it.
