I tell them thank you for pointing out my rights and I have the right of racism if I so choose. If they have a problem with that the world has four directions that means that you can go away in three other directions and not be where I am standing. mr bill

Ignore them.

I don't think in today's society one can be honest about their beliefs wo being dinged somehow. Even though I honestly feel people harbor ill will towards people. A fat lady cuts you off in traffic; you yell,"you fat bitch!" A Mexican walking too slow at the traffic light, as he's crossing, " hurry up beaner..." Visually, thats what a person will comment on when enraged, and it may not be that the person is racist. Does that make any sense?

Just laugh at them, works every time.

I would try to find out what I have done or said that has made them believe I am racist. If it is even minimally reasonable that they interpreted my actions or words as racist, I will let them know that they are mistaken and apologize for any offense or hurt to them my misunderstood action/words may have caused. (Assuming I give a shit what they think of me.)

usually i just apologize... different folks get upset by different things...

People usually don’t want to admit they are wrong. EVER! So they will not apologize. Fighting back, from experience, just makes it worse and they will twist whatever you say against you. (see example) So ignoring them is best. EX: Someguy: Australians descended from convicts and turned out to be better people because of their ancestors suffering. Ahole: Why did you just say all Australians are convicts? If it is something I’VE said then I usually do something to the liking of what raindancer said and if they still call me racist, I ignore them.
