  • I dont think they want the image of being well kept. The uglier and dirtier and more worn they look, the greater the sympathy points and the handouts. Lazy bastards.
  • Here in our area, they regularly show up for the above services as presented at the local homeless shelter. There are some who are so far gone they don't or can't, but most seem glad for the chance. http://www.sacloaves.org/ Some of the grooming shops in down and out neighborhoods do community service when they are having a slow day, and they can always find people who want to come in.
  • They heve to have some places to learn being self trust-industrious people!
  • I think that a fair share would. I hate the preconception that ALL homeless people are drunks, drug addicts, mentally ill, and/or lazy. This is not always the case.
  • I've participated in such programs and they are very encouraged by being able to be clean and well groomed. This often can help them get work s they look good enough for a job interview. Most of the homeless I've talked to aren't mentally ill, and even the ones that are, usually appreciate the opportunity for some hygiene.
  • Yes, everyone likes to feel good about themselves.
  • Some might, but realistically, the majority would probably ignore it. This is because they are so accustomed to being unwashed and dirty, they would think "Nah, that's okay, hiccup, I like myself like this, hiccup. I want a drink instead. Hiccup!"
  • If the homeless can't be bothered to look for a public toilet when they have to go; instead of the sidewalk...what would make you think they'd like to look presentable? You honestly think they want work? Who would hire them? Could you eat at Applebee's knowing the kitchen contained Ned the bum (formerly of Skid Row) currently still on skid row, only he has a shave & haircut? ;) There might be some legit people who fell on hard times (loss of job means, lost of everything) and they would appreciate that service. That type of service isn't usually there to help the working class though... Mentally ill patients need help, if not for their sake then the safety of others. I'd rather help that person out than someone who's burning a hole in the system due to laziness;welfare collecting, child bearing, druggies who get used to a lifestyle of take take...never having to put a positive contribution back into society. Taser? PLEASE! :)
