I have to put in my vote for Christopher Lee. Msot of his work was before my time, but I'm a huge fan, and he's a true master of the art.

My instinct wa sto go for Christopher Lee, but if its really about acting ability I have to go for Lon Chaney. http://hometown.aol.com/chaneyfan/ I don't think anyone since has really been able to "become" a character in quite the same way.

it sounds obvious but Jack Nicholson, his work in One Flew Over deserves my vote on its own, then the Shinning. Also rate John Malkovic highly.
