I had a lot of pain during insertion. That day I had cramps and a little spotting. Ibuprophen helped a lot. After that, not much. I get a few cramps here and there, maybe 3 or 4 times a year for a few hours.I never get my period. I've had it in since April '07. It was worth it for me. Talk to your dr. at appt. You can always change your mind.

Well Ive had mine in for about a month and 1/2. The procedure wasnt too bad its fast but a little uncomfortable, almost just like a pap smear really. So far whats happening for me is Just spotting right after u get it in and sometimes though out the month. But then i got my period and it lasted like 8 or 9 days :(. But no one told me before i got it in that a wire like string hangs down and i fell sorry for my boyfriend cuz it pooks him.He Says it feels really werid. The doctor said you can go and cut it shorter if the guy feels it But everyone is different. But besides all that i think you should get it. Hey u dont have to worry about pills, patchs or shots nothing for up to 5 years.:)Im glad i got it!

I think it's the best thing in the world, if you can handle the pain many feel upon insertion. I have one and it is brilliant! I've had it for well over 10 years and since I'm a bit of a private person I don't want to go into excess details but, needless to say, since I'm raving about it, any insertion pain (there's no pain after the docs done with you), and the constant spotting you may experince in the first year, is well worth it. Consider this - The Mirena is the most successful form of contraception in the world today (HIGHER success rate than sterilisation even!), and, should you wish to have a baby sometime, your body is ready to go after just a few days after the removal of the device. Re. side affects - The beauty of the Mirena is that it releases such an extraordinarily tiny amount of hormone all the time that the impact on your body (aside from the not being able to conceive thing), is virtually nil, aside from the spotting which goes away after a year. I could go on and if you have any specific questions ask me in comments here, but the Mirena is fantastic in my view, and has the least impact on your body's general health than any other form of contraception. It also now has a 7 year (I think) licence so the reinsertions are so far apart now it's no trauma. Good luck and go for it. If it's hurts upon insertion and you feel shaky afterwards (get a cab home, though I went back to work against all advice), just be brave because after it's in you are set up and uber protected .... for years! It rocks.
