There is actually a test done at your doctor's office to determine if you have the flu and which strain of it. If your temp is higher than 102 all the time and you cannot keep it down you might have the flu. I say pay the doc a visit!!!

The average length of the common cold is 7-10 days. The flu lasts 1 to 2 weeks or longer. If your symptoms last longer than 10 days and/or are not showing signs of improvement, you should make an appointment to see a doctor. Constant hot liquids (with no caffeine) will help to clear congestion and keep you hydrated.

Sadly a virus just has to run its course and in the meantime you are just its helpless victim! You might want to make a doctor's visit at the end of week two (esp if it moves into your chest) because you could develop a really fun bacterial infection after the viral one- I always do!
