  • The most beneficial gift I ever got, which ended up being priceless, was when my sister took calanders, and marked them with every birthday, anniversary, and ages of every family member, for each family to have. It was so valuable, because we have a big family. Though it was the least expensive gift, the time and effort it took, made it the best christmas gift that year!!! We trade off doing this about every 2 years now.
  • Free. When I was in college, I had no money but lots of youthful energy. I would give coupons that I'd hand-written (everyone didn't own a computer in the bad ol' days) stating my desire to do some kind of labor or skill: cook a meal, clean an apartment, babysit, etc.
  • I am all for the inexpensive gifts. If you have a creative talent, use it to your advantage! If you knit, knit scarves for your friends and family in their favorite colors. Teach yourself the art of candlemaking - this can become a little more costly however. If you're a baker, bake cookies, cakes, etc. Or, if you are a budding DJ, compile mix tapes or CDs for your loved ones. Either way, nothing says love like a handmade gift. Not to mention the fact that your wallet will thank you after the holidays, too!
  • Last year I bought all my friends plants for christmas (we have a big garden centre where you can get some pretty cool plants quite cheap), I painted all the pots in different funky designs to suit each friend. Another benefit to doing this is that you can get all your presents from one place, without shopping around in a manic town centre.
  • I agree with most of the answers on here already, but I must add that any gift is special. So it doesn't matter what it is made of or what is made in the end, as long as you put your heart into your gift, I'm sure the receiver will appreciate the gift. I've done a lot of things, like buying small statues of the things that my friends like from buying them a gift card to their favorite store. I once had a friend, too, that I ended up buying fluffy socks for. Socks are great gifts! ^.^ Hope this helps!
  • Anything that you can make yourself is both free and very peronal. It can be a card, a letter, or something more artistic. It can be a recorded song if you are musical. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Inexpensive cards with a personalized hand written note inside are an inexpensive yet very personal gift.
  • There is an old saying "The gift is small, the thought is all." If you give it with love and the right intent, it doesn't matter what it is or what it costs.
  • I have a million kids and can't spend a lot of money on my friends, however I love to read, so when I come across an especially good book during the year, I set it aside and at Christmas time I write a little note on the inside cover for one of my friends and then wrap it up as a gift. It's a great gift because then you get to discuss the books after they read them, which I love! Some of my friends even re-gift the books after reading them. It's a lot of fun. A few years ago a friend of mine quit her job to be a stay-at-home mom and realized that she never really learned how to cook. That year she got a stack of old cook books that I had gotten bored with. She LOVED them!
  • I usually buy lucky dip lottery tickets for people who are hard to buy for, and you never know, if they win the jackpot they might just give you half!
  • i make fudge. one recipe makes 3 lbs
