Muzzle climb a condition caused from repeated successive rifle fire that has a dendency of raising the muzzle of the weapon. Muzzle climb cam be reduced by muzzle breaks that reroute muzzle gasses through ported baffles in the barrell of the gun. Muzzle climb is a condition that happens more frequently with larger caliber weapons, and as noted in the first answer smaller more managible rounds lessen the tendency of muzzle climb, which was the case with the M-14 and it's 7.62rd that was virtually out of control on full automatic. Hence the arrival of the colt M-16 with it's .223rd and the three round burst practically eliminating muzzle climb, rendering the a more controlled round.
