My favourite band is Yes. They're from an age gone by, so you may not know them. Another band I enjoy listening to is Blackmore's Night.
Have you heard of either of these?
Opeth is definitely the most amazingly amazing band ever. They're black metal though (with some really beautiful acoustic songs), so if you don't like that stay away.
Also, Athlete, Morcheeba, Massive Attack, VNV Nation, God Lives Underwater, The Necromantix, and Sigur Ros are all super awesome, too.
Jack Off Jill.
They rocked.
I bet you have never heard of Martin Denny.
Any song by Idle Sons.

I've heard of Operation Ivy. One of my all time favorite bands.
by Done. never again. on August 13th, 2008
I love King Missile. Saw them four times back in the day.
Milla's album was called The Divine Comedy. I saw her play a show that year (1994) at a coffehouse in Atlanta. She hugged and thanked me when I told her I drove 4 hours from Charlotte to see her. A real sweetheart.
I also dig Brenda Kahn. Haven't seen her live, though.
