When traveling in europe, do you get a better deal (with conversion rate) when paying with cash vs. paying with a credit card?

It depends on when you convert and how much you convert at one time. I've found the easiest and most cost effective way is to use a minimum amount of cash and use credit for most everything else. (I tend to spend more freely when I have cash in my pocket.) I use my bank, which doesn't charge a fee to convert, and get some spending money before I go. If I need more, I hit a local ATM while there.

Your best bet is to use your ATM for cash in local currency but be sure to take out enough the 1st and only withdrawal time as you get fees for every ATM use. A credit card rate is not that far behind ATM either.
