In some peoples' minds, probably not. But I see tolerance as just being accepting that people are different, and not worrying about it; and acceptance is not only accepting the differences, but understanding (or at least trying to) most, if not all, of them.

Yes, they are two different things.Acceptance is approval of something as in,"I accepted that fact that my boyfriend is jewish while I'm a christian because some of my best friends are jewish." While tolerance is a permissive attitude to someone. For example,"I can tolerate that my boyfriend is jewish but I wish he was christian like me."

Acceptance is like embracing and approving of something. Tolerating means you aren't against it actively, you are allowing it's presence with no action taken against it but you usually wish it weren't like it is.
