In Monopoly, the rules say you're not supposed to put money on Free Parking. Well what is it for then?

    I think it's there to emphasize the nature of the original concept of Monopoly: that it was a game dealing with streets and properties, etc.
    It was also probably included to give players the occasional "breathing space" - time out, you may say - especially at the end of the game when you could be landing on someone else's property on every go.
    Excepting the policeman, each corner square at least allows some breathing space in the normal course around the board.

    It's just a safe place to land, in the midst of a lot of properties that could cost you lots of money to land on. It's just "free parking."

    When you are in free parking and you roll the die, you don't have to leave the square. You can skip your go and take another shot next time.

    (Hence the name free parking.)

    I use it to put money on. It would be useful if you get put in jail and don't have a get out of jail free card.
