  • A good idea? It would help a lot of working parents, but I am not sure it should be totally "free",..just affordable. If the working parents paid enough taxes to balance the expense, it could work. I am all for folks who work to support themselves and their kids. But, the education system has already been overburdened with providing so much that has little to do with education.
  • HELL NO! Ever visited a Social Security office? How about the DMV? Do you really want THOSE people taking care of your kids? How about changing the screwed up tax code instead? A good half of the reason for the ideal of having a stay at home mom (or dad) being no longer tenable is due to government's voracious appetite for more money and the absurd tax rates (a nice flat 10% across the board sounds good to me, if that was sufficient for Jesus its plenty for Uncle Sugar). Let them keep some more money so that maybe one parent can stay home and not have to hold down a full time job just to keep up with the bills. I mentioned that as half the problem, the other half is parents who are more interested in keeping up their material wealth rather than being parents. Sacrifice a few luxuries so that you can spend time with your children rather than letting the idiot box or some babysitter raise them.
